Culotta Wedding

by Robin Hebert

I could tell something was going on... I had "proposal radar".

After college I moved to Houston and often traveled back to Lafayette on weekends to visit family and friends.  On one of those weekends, while out with friends, I met Kidd and he asked for my number.  A few minutes later Kidd came back to our table and in a panic he asked for my number again.  Confused, I told him no.  He explained that he put my number his phone, but when he walked away he realized it did not save.  I was reluctant to give him my number again, but his facial expression was so adorable, I could not resist.  Our relationship started as a long distance relationship and I eventually moved back to Louisiana.

We were on our way to New Orleans to celebrate our anniversary, like we do every year.  It was additionally special because it was our five year anniversary.  I could tell something was going on because he wanted to invite his friend to join us, needless to say I was not happy about a third-wheel. Little did I know, it was all part of a master plan to divert my "proposal radar."  As we finished packing, Kidd grabbed my hand and said the most beautiful speech.  I can honestly say I was truly surprise when he asked for my hand in marriage.  The drive to New Orleans became a phone-tree of announcing our engagement.  I could not stop smiling and looking at my hand the entire weekend.  I feel blessed to know that I am going to spend the rest of my life with my best friend and the man I love.

We knew Rip Van Winkle Gardens was the perfect place to host our southern belle style wedding.  Over two-hundred of our closest family and friends joined us our special day.  The weather, venue and grounds were absolutely perfect on March 18, 2011.  The ceremony was held outside at sunset, facing Lake Peigneur.  After, our guests celebrated with delicious food, plenty of drinks, and great live music.  The day surpassed my expectations of a perfect wedding day.

Our honeymoon was in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and it was beyond the ideal romantic destination.
