Downtown Lafayette comes alive every second Saturday of the month for 2nd Saturday ArtWalk. Galleries, restaurants, shops and night clubs will be open – offering live music, food, drink and of course, art!
Acadiana Center for the Arts 101 W. Vermilion St. / 233-7060 Main Gallery: Hot Up Here organized by Dan Cameron Hot Up Here is the first in an ongoing series of exhibitions of new work by New Orleans and Louisiana-based artists. Organized by Contemporary Arts Center Visual Arts Director Dan Cameron. Artists for Hot Up Here include: Brad Benischek, Stephen Collier, Generic Art Solutions, Jessica Goldfinch, Brian Guidry, Scott Guion, Christopher Jahnke, Rachel Jones, Michelle Levine, Gina Philips, Christopher Saucedo, Karoline Schleh, Maxx Sizeler, Chris Sullivan, David Sullivan and Monica Zeringue.
Side Gallery: Anne Boudreau: a delicate balance A delicate balance is an installation of suspended mixed media constructions. The installation environment includes two groups of sculptural pieces that work in tandem. One group explores representational content relating to garments and apparel accessories. The second group of works are gestural, large scale, geometric forms.
AcA is having a special members only gallery tour with Hot Up Here organizer Dan Cameron at 5 p.m. Dan will be speaking about some select pieces in the show which showcases more than 100 works from 15 Louisiana-based artists.
Vault Series: Miles Peterson: Recycled-Reborn The materials that Peterson uses are recycled, coming from structures that were built in Southern Louisiana between 75 and 150 years ago. Recycled-Reborn will consist of a wide variety of furniture made from these recycled materials. Items will include tables, chairs, rockers, cribs and much more. These creations can become the heirlooms of the future.
Louisiana Folk Roots: Jam Des Amis Louisiana Folk Roots will present its Jam des Amis in conjunction with January ArtWalk from 6-8 p.m. in the Art House at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Cajun Spice 535 Jefferson St / 791-7986 January Artwalk features Kimberly Parker, whose art is influenced by a life exposed to the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico. Kimberly taught herself to cut old roofing metal, her completed pieces a collage of salvaged architectural objects with images of redfish, oysters, blue point crabs, & roosters. Galerie Eclaireuse 535 ½ Jefferson St. / 234-5492 Galerie Eclaireuse will feature the work of Louisiana artist James Hunter. Grandson of the famous artist Clementine Hunter, James works in the same primitive style that he learned from his grandmother. The show will run through January. He has worked on various photographic projects since. He will be participating in a photojournalism internship at the Point Reyes Light in Point Reyes, Calif., this month. David’s works encapsulate images in and around Acadiana his view point and perspective are both innovative and fresh with a focus on life in the city of Lafayette
